It's still me

Scribbled by TeddieDebbie at 08:33
Remember I had to introduce myself with an unfamiliar name of mine in Penang? Yup, name's Debbie. All my sis have their Christian name. So why did I stop using it since primary school? Here's the reasons:

1. Friends laugh at this name. Even my sis. They said it sounds like "低B" (brainless moron). Why use it when even my sis laugh at it? (You see, siblings played an important role in building one's self esteem.)
2. I tried to introduce myself with both my Chinese name and Christian name during Form 1. Ended up my Indian friends could only remember my Chinese name.
3. Since Form 1 people know me by Syn Wei, I'm getting more comfortable with it already. So why change?
4. My sis are Ivy and Lily. Their names are so beautiful. Flowers' name. Why aren't mine? Somemore "Debbie" is not an original name, it is a pet form of the name "Deborah".

Actually the first one is the main reason I stopped using the name. Children can be annoying at times. Ah Di said it was the past already, plus children likes to make fun of people's names and they mean no harm, so just get up from where you fall!

After some online searching, I found that Debbie (Deborah; Hebrew) brings the meaning of a swarm of bees. It is borne in the Bible by a prophetess and judge who led the Israelites to victory over the Canaanites. Hm. Not as beautiful as names like my sis, Ivy (An evergreen climbing vine of the ginseng family) and Lily (derived from Lilie, or pet form of Lilian and Lilith. A plant with delicate, trumpet-shaped flowers regarded as a symbol of purity and perfection) or as great as names like my friend, Michelle (feminine form of Michael, which is one of the seven archangels and He's the one closest to God) and Christy (pet form of Christine, means Christian, follower of God). (Source: The Baby Name Wizard)
Anyhow, name is just a title to address someone easier. No matter how it change, I'm still me, aye? ;)
